In this instructive and entertaining session we look back on how the people of the nineteenth century responded to this new technology and became the first consumers of electronic social media. We will look at how the technology impacted personal relationships, businesses, news reporting, governments, and international diplomacy, and how it had a major impact on the American Civil War and enabled Abraham Lincoln to become one of the most connected presidents in history.
