It's Misericordia Day in Chicago so Donate What You Can

Today is Misericordia drive day. There are hundreds of volunteers throughout the Chicago area on street corners collecting donations. So if you are in the Chicago area make sure you donate your change or what you can to them. For their appreciation they will give you a small sample of Jelly Belly and the Heart tag. So you do not have to drive all the way to Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin like Alex Kassabov did to get the sample Jelly Belly bags. Misericordia Heart of Mercy Center is a wonderful organization that help developmental disabled individuals. For more information go to www.misericordia.org

Man versus Nature

This weekend is Labor Day weekend. However, it will not be a weekend of relaxation. I have been task by the higher up to get ridden of a yellow jack nest that is right in front of our front door. It explains why I was stung a few times recently. I was going to wait to the late fall to get rid of them when the queen leaves the nest and the rest die off. However, it is in the way of a major landscaping project required by upper management. I am ready with the fogger spray and protective clothing. Let see who wins, Man or Nature.

There have been years when we did extremely well and years in which it was a nightmare. My parents thought I was nuts to run my own business, but after many years in the corporate world I was tired of the bureaucracy and incompetents. Even with all its ups and downs, it has been a wondeful experience so far. There will be ups and downs in the future, but today as I biked to our office in shorts and have yogurt on the shores of Lake Michigan, I thought about what was really important. It is not about the fancy house or car, but having a wonderful family and a job that you enjoy. If I was in the corporate world, I would not be able to come into work in shorts and a t-shirt at odd hours or be with the family as often as I like. Yes, I work many hours each day, but I set the schedule. Oh yes, there is that call...
