With the great weather we had this past weekend, we decide to go to Holland, Michigan for our anniversary and enjoy the fall colors in Michigan. I have been married to the most wonderful lady for 12 years. We visited and hiked the sand dunes of Saugatuck Dunes State Park and P. J. Hoffmaster State Park. It was great exercise climbing the 300 foot sand dunes. You really feel it in your legs later. Both of them have beautiful beaches, but are not crowded especially in the fall. We tried getting a cabin, but they were all filled. This weekend gave me time to relax and enjoy the most important thing in my life, my family. As you can see the Lotus Software Cap make a good sun shade.

It is very beautiful in upper Minnesota this time of year. Spent a week up there. Here are a few pictures from my trip. Minnesota has some incredible State Parks. Unfortunately, we did not stay too long at Great River Bluff State Park because of all the mosquitoes. Last time I was here, I was stuck overnight in Duluth when the engines of our plane froze up. I am back from vacation. We had a wonderful time in Minnesota. We visited my son who is interning in Minneapolis this summer. Afterwards, we went up to Duluth and Grand Marias near the Canadian border. It is very beautiful up there and peaceful. The last time I was up here was for a client meeting. We did hiking at Gooseberry Falls State Park, Cascade Falls State Park, and Jake Cooke State Park. It was refreshing compared to the terrible traffic of Minneapolis. Construction delays were amazing. The traffic was equal or worst than Chicago and we are very bad here. Maybe next time, I will bring my bike and bike the 120 miles between Duluth and Grand Marias. Being on vacation, gives me time to reflect on what is important. It is not the Lotus technology and what is the coolest technology, but family. On most PBS stations across the nation, the new Ken Burns documentary, National Parks, America's Best Idea is now playing. I have been to many national parks over the past years and enjoyed it much better than visiting a beach resort for vacation. My family also enjoy very much visiting our national treasures. However, my wife does not like the Civil War battlefields. My goal is to visit as many national parks and locations. I still have many, many more to go. It July and it is time to take some time off. This year we are going to a little known area called Giant City State Park located at the Southern tip of Illinois near Makanda, Illinois. Unlike most of Illinois, the southern part of Illinois is very different with rolling hills, cliffs, and very rough terrain. It is very beautiful in Southern Illinois. Last time I was there was in 2001 at the Shawnee National Forest. Giant City State Park is next to it and features giant sandstone pillars of over 100 feet that create natural streets similar what to see towards the end of the third Indiana Jones movie. Some streets are very narrow. A pastor of my colleague got stuck between the giant pillars and had to be pushed out. It should be fun climbing the sandstones and hiking the trails. Giant City Lodge is inside the park and features individual one and two bedroom cabins. It was build during the depression. With our IBF Portal finally completed, I can finally spend some time away from all the technology and enjoy one of the things that I like to do, hiking. This year instead of going to places like Zion National Park and Grand Canyon, our family went to a place close by that I found out about last year, Pictured Rock National Lakeshore in Michigan, Upper Peninsula. This place has great hiking trails. Weather was pretty good with the exception of Thursday morning which was cloudy, rainy, and extremely wind. I was expecting 80 degree weather but with the wind and rain it was more like 50s. I had to quickly go buy some heavier clothes. I only had shorts and t-shirts. We stayed at Munising which is right next to Pictured Rock. It is a nice small town. The motel we stayed at was Sunset Motel by the Bay. It is a small family run motel that look like nothing but it was clean and very nice. I have been to many fancy and expensive hotels during my many hotels stays. This beat most of t...
