The October 17th GRANITE meeting will be an historic first for GRANITE. For the first time, the GRANITE meeting will be webcast live to other Lotus User Group throughout the United States. For this meeting, we will be presenting extended versions of two sessions were presented at MWLUG 2011 in Milwaukee, WI. in addition to other presentations and discussions. Presenter: Robert Burton - Phora Group, Technical Consultant

Straight from MWLUG 2011, Robert will present an extended version of his historical overview of social media. The ability to communicate instantly across vast distances and forge relationships with people who never meet face to face is not just a modern phenomenon. Many of the challenges of today's social media were encountered over one hundred and fifty years ago with the advent of a new technology called the telegraph, the information superhighway of its day. In this instructive and entertaining session we look back on how the people of the nineteenth century responded to this new technology and became the first consumers of electronic social media. We will look at how the technology impacted personal relationships, businesses, news reporting, governments, and international diplomacy, and how it had a major impact on the American Civil War and enabled Abraham Lincoln to become one of the most connected presidents in history.

Mike and Roy, in their own inimitable style, will demonstrate common ways to connect various XPages user interfaces with data from documents and views. This presentation includes examples from their MWLUG 2011 XPages workshop in August.

Richard will update the audience on the highlights and announcements at MWLUG 2011 that was held in Milwaukee, WI in August. In addition, Richard will provide an update on the planning of MWLUG 2012 that will be held in Pittsburgh, August 15-17, 2012.
